“PAUSE”-Paintings from the Covid lockdown (2020)

When the lock down started here, most my projects got either cancelled or postponed, and the city went silent.
If I compared our society to the clockwork gears, I felt like it was the moment that the clockwork machinery broke apart and our time stopped.
I started painting the series ‘Pause’ which was one of the first painting from the pandemic time.

This series ‘Pause’ supposed to represent the state of mind I was in that moment. I spend a good amount of my time painting letters (and figures) daily.
-- And for these paintingbelow, those painted characters( letters and figures ) represent the time.
The loosely painted white scribbles were added after I finished painting those characters.
In each painting, I had a limited amount of white paint in a small cup and I had a rule that I have to use up the white paint to complete the piece.
During the lock down, we were also nervous about the supply shortages, and for me to use up the white paint in the cup for the each painting was simply the mentality of ‘not waste anything’ in order to get through the situation.
The white scribbles also could be compared to my feeling at that moment.
